Answers

  1. Why should I use iBlissLIVE?
The iPhone is a fantastic mobile phone, but Apple engineers imposed a limit: it can contain only 1000 SMS (10000 on newer firmwares). Also, SMS can't be deleted selectively, so if you need more space you have to delete entire conversations, losing also messages that are important for you.
Because of this iBlissLIVE was born: to create an archive for SMS that everyone can use for free.
iBlissLIVE is a WebApp: this means that it runs completely in your browser. You don't need to install any software in your PC, and you can access to your data everywhere.
  2. Is iBlissLIVE free?
Yes, iBlissLIVE is a service offered free for use.
  3. Which browsers are supported?
iBlissLIVE requires a modern browser, capable of executing JavaScript code with AJAX.
It has been tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Mozilla Firefox 2, 3 and greater, Safari 2 and 3, Opera 9.5 and greater and Google Chrome.
Mozilla Firefox 1 and Internet Explorer 5.5 may work as well (even if with some glitches), altough they are not officially supported, and thus untested.
To use the WebApp, you need also to have JavaScript and cookies enabled in your browser.
  4. Where are my SMS stored?
Your SMS are stored "in the cloud", into the database of the server running this site. This allows you to access your SMS everywhere.
  5. Is it safe? How do you protect data?
In short words: yes, it's safe! We are using the most advanced technologies to protect your data, including strong encryption algorithm. Data security and privacy is a priority for us!
We and our friends use this service too: we would never suggest them to use it if we knew it isn't safe!
Technical answer: all the sensitive data in our database (including, but not limited to, phone numbers and text of SMSs) are encrypted with AES (a very strong cryptographic algorithm, adopted as encryption standard also by the U.S. Government). The key to decrypt your data is unique for each user.
  6. How can I import SMSs into iBlissLIVE?
The best way to import new messages is using our iTextUploader. This native iPhone applications uploads your SMS database to the WebApp directly from your phone, over the air! Please refer to its own page for more information.
Alternatively, you can use the old manual method, which involves extracting the sms.db file manually, using either SSH or any other method. That file is located into /var/mobile/Library/SMS/sms.db in the iPhone memory (or /var/root/Library/SMS/sms.db if you are using iPhone firmware 1.1.1 or older).
  7. Is there a limit on the number of SMSs I can import?
Actually we imposed a limit of 80 000 SMSs for each user, which is 80 times the capacity of the iPhone! We may increase this limit in the future.
Users who have donated 5€ or more can store unlimited messages.
  8. Can I change my password and my email address?
Yes, of course. You can change them from your Preferences panel, by clicking on the apposite link and following on-screen instructions.
  9. What is the Locale setting about? Why is my country not included?
The Locale setting affects many behaviours of the app. The most relevant is how phone numbers are related to the Addressbook. To assure you get the best user experience, you should set this value to match your mobile operator's country.
Since we need to know some things about a country before adding it to the list, yours may not be included yet. In this case, set the value to "General". Then, if you want, you can contact us and offer help to add your country (your help is always appreciated: you will be asked just a couple of simple questions).
Note that when you set this value to something different than "General", you can't change it later.
  10. Every time I try logging in, I get an error saying "Couldn't open user database". What does it mean?
Altough that should be extremely rare, it means your database has been corrupted.
However, stay calm! We have backups!
Please contact the staff from the Contacts page. They will restore your last working backup (which is maximum 36 hours old).
